Liturgical ministers are devoted to serving during Mass. Liturgical ministers can serve as altar servers, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, lectors, sacristans, and/or ushers. All individuals, including students, children, and adults, are welcome to become ministers.
To become a liturgical minister, individuals need to attend a training session held either the third or fourth week of class; training times will be announced during Mass and will be posted on this page at the beginning of the semester. Liturgical ministers also need to become EIM certified.
On Jan. 1, 2002, the Catholic Diocese of Austin instated policies on Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) for all employees and those volunteers who minister to youth or vulnerable adults in the diocese. These policies were revised in August 2008. All clergy and paid staff, and all volunteers working with youth and vulnerable adults, at any parish or diocesan location, are required to complete an Application for Ministry AND are required to attend an EIM workshop every three years. If you need to be EIM trained, please complete an application. More information on EIM training can also be found here.
