Travis Schilling Memorial Tribute
Yesterday afternoon Travis Schilling passed away from complications suspected to be due to covid-19. He began showing symptoms Friday, was showing improvement on Wednesday, then suddenly declined late Wednesday evening and went to the ER. He passed away at Presbyterian hospital in Rockwall around 1:40pm, Thursday June 25th.
Travis was an involved Baylor Catholic, known and loved by many of us, who graduated in May 2013 and worked as the development director of St. Peter from fall 2013 to 2015. He went on to serve 2 years with FOCUS on the National Development Team and recently completed coursework for his masters degree in counseling with Divine Mercy University. During his coursework Travis worked as a special education teacher and caregiver, and was involved with Opus Dei in Dallas.
He was 29 years old.
Travis has a particular devotion to Mary, as well as the Holy Souls in Purgatory, and passed away one day prior to his favorite saint’s feast day, St Josemaría Escriva (which was the feast of Bl. Alvaro del Portillo, a close friend of St. Josemaria and first Prelate of Opus Dei).
Much like St. Josemaria, Travis lived his life striving to love and serve our Lord through prayer and everyday work and suffering with the people around him.
He touched the lives of many with joy and love for life, and plenty of laughter. Travis reminds us now of the gift of life, time, and grace God gives to be the saints He created us to be, along with those around us.
Thank you for being our friend Travis. May the souls of the faithfully departed through the mercy of God, rest In peace. Amen.
